Eburg Buck Down (added Photos of completed mount)
« on: October 15, 2012, 12:08:32 AM »
We waited for this Season all year and it ended in 30 minutes. Shortest season ever for me but I am not complaining one bit. Opening day, we woke up super early like 4 am or something. Brew a pot of coffee for my buddies and Cooked breakfast. After eating I could not hold the kids any longer inside the cabin they are too excited to hit the hills and start hunting. When the sun started to rise around 630 we left the cabin and started to climb the hill next to it. 30 minutes into the hunt, we spoted 3 deer (all doe) I told my son to get ready just in case there was buck trailing the does. Sure enough 5 minutes later after watching the does feed slowly just below the skyline a buck showed himself walking slowly while trying to have a morning siesta. I was not sure if it was a legal buck so I picked up my bino and notice that it was at least a 3X on one side once it cleared the Sage brush right in front of it I told my son to aim right on the top of his back because the deer was 320 yards away. When the buck stopped broadside  I told my son to squeeze one .243 out. BOOM! buck did a mule kick and tried to run but all it did was crash into a sage brush 5 yard away. The shot placement was perfect, right in the middle of both lungs. Buck down and 2012 season is in the books. That afternoon, I hunted with my daughter, we saw lots of deer but no legal bucks. She wanted to shoot a buck so we kept on hunting the following day. We saw a total of 37 doe, 2 cayote and 4 bigh horn sheep. She was too tired to walk for an afternoon hunt so we decided to end it early because she has school Monday morning. I told my son and daughter that it does not usually happen that way but sometimes with a little bit of luck and a little bit of practice shooting at the range we might just get a crack at a buck.  He field dressed the buck and even help cut it all up Sunday afternoon once we got home in Tacoma. Tired but it was all worth it. This is a memory that will last for a lifetime. My daughter is already looking forward for next year's season because I promise here that she will get to pull the trigger first next year. As for me I am looking forward for the late season. I am hoping to tag out in Okanagan this year. I will post pics later on once I find the camera somewhere in the truck still.

That's awesome. Great shot by your boy. Sounds like you need to find your daughter a big one next year so she can rub it in brother's face! LOL
